About

An independent, recurring publication that records which firms and companies AI answer engines name, and which sources they cite.

What the Census is

The AI Visibility Census is a recurring, published measure of which firms and companies AI answer engines name when buyers ask for recommendations, and which sources those answers cite. Each edition covers one market and asks the same questions of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Claude.

Why it exists

More buyers now begin their research by asking an AI assistant. The answer names a few options and leaves others out, and the firms left out rarely know it happened. There is no shared, public record of what these engines actually say. The Census provides one, sector by sector, with a method anyone can check.

How we work

Published method

Every edition publishes its questions, dates, engines and engine versions.

Separate measures

Being named in an answer and being cited as a source are reported as two numbers, never one score.

Dated editions

Editions stay online unchanged. Corrections are made openly and noted on the page.

Open to challenge

Anyone can question a result. Confirmed errors are corrected under our corrections policy.

Independence

No firm pays to be included in the Census, to be left out of it, or to change how it appears in a result. Results come from what the engines returned on the dates tested, recorded under the published method.
